Every competitive game ranks players differently, but they all do the same job: turning your recent results into a visible tier. This hub compares the rank systems in Valorant, League of Legends, CS2, Marvel Rivals, Deadlock, Destiny 2 and Overwatch side by side, then links to a full, sourced guide for each game.

Almost every ladder pairs a visible rank with a hidden matchmaking rating. The visible rank is what you see; the hidden rating decides who you play against and how many points a win or loss moves. When the two drift apart, gains and losses become uneven until your results catch up.
- Placements: a short set of matches that sets or re-sets your starting rank.
- Divisions: smaller steps inside each tier, usually 100 points apart.
- Top-end leaderboards: the highest ranks are capped by region and decided by placement, not points alone.
- Party limits: most games restrict how far apart in rank a group can be.
How can you use rank data to improve?
Your rank is an average of many games, so the useful question is what moves it. Compare where you sit on the rank distribution, set a realistic target with the rank goal planner, check reset dates in ranked season dates 2026, and learn what your numbers mean in game stats explained. Then follow our climbing guides for every game for a step-by-step plan to rank up in your title. When lookups open for your game, the player lookup and match tracker will show your trend over time.
How we write these guides. Each one is checked against official publisher pages and patch notes first, labels third-party data with its source and date, and is updated when a game changes its ranked rules. Read our editorial policy.

Which competitive game has the most ranks?
Deadlock has the most steps of the games we cover: 11 ranks with six subranks each, or 66 steps, plus an uncalibrated Obscurus state. Overwatch is next with nine tiers of five divisions, or 45 steps, plus the Top 500 Challenger leaderboard. Valorant has 25 ranks, League of Legends ten tiers and Marvel Rivals nine ranks. CS2 Premier is different because it uses one numeric CS Rating with color bands instead of named ranks.
Which games have rank decay?
Of the games covered here, League of Legends has the clearest decay rules. Diamond players bank up to 28 days and then lose 50 LP per inactive day, while Master and above bank up to 14 days and lose 75 LP per day. Destiny 2 decays from Gold III up unless you play three matches per weekly reset. Valorant has no rank decay, although Immortal and Radiant players must play every seven days to stay on the leaderboard. Rules for other games change by season, so check each guide for the current details.
What do you need to unlock ranked in each game?
Requirements vary by game. Valorant needs account level 20, Marvel Rivals needs account level 15, and Overwatch needs 20 unranked wins on a new account. CS2 Premier needs Prime Status and 10 Premier wins to reveal your CS Rating. Deadlock currently asks for 60 Standard wins and three heroes with at least 15 Standard wins each. League of Legends uses five placement games each year, and Destiny 2 Competitive uses seven placement matches. Each guide links to the official source for its rule.
Do ranks reset every season?
Most games reset in some form, but the details differ. League of Legends resets ranks and placements once a year in January. Valorant asks for five placement matches at the start and middle of each yearly season and one at other acts. Marvel Rivals seeds each season three divisions below your last finish. Overwatch resets at the start of each three-season arc. CS2 Premier hides your rating again until you win 10 matches in the new season.
How often are these rank guides updated?
We review each guide when its game changes ranked rules, usually at a new season or major patch, and update the date shown in the byline. Each guide lists its sources at the bottom, with official publisher pages first, and labels anything season-specific with the date it applies to. If you spot something out of date, use the contact page to report it and we will check it against the publisher's notes.
Can I look up my own rank on RankSurge?
Yes, for Deadlock, CS2, Dota 2 and Destiny 2: open that game's stats page or the Player Lookup page and search your name. Valorant and League of Legends follow after Riot approves our production API key, Overwatch comes last, and Marvel Rivals lookups open only if NetEase offers an official data source. Until then, each game hub explains its ranks and stats. Join the email list at the bottom of any page to hear the day lookups open for your game.
