A Dota 2 hero tier list ranks every hero by win rate, pick rate and sample size inside one rank bracket, not by opinion. Pick a bracket below to see which heroes are actually winning right now, from Herald all the way up to pro matches.

Live now. Built straight from OpenDota's public hero statistics and refreshed every 30 minutes. Win rates are smoothed toward 50% for low-sample heroes so a hero with 20 games cannot fake an S-tier off a lucky streak.

How is each tier calculated?

Win rate, smoothed

Raw win rate is pulled toward 50% for heroes with few games, so a hero with 30 lucky wins cannot outrank a hero with 30,000 games and a real 53% win rate.

Pick rate

Shown next to win rate so you can see whether a hero is a hidden gem or already a popular pick in that bracket.

Minimum sample size

Heroes below a minimum number of games for the bracket are left out of that bracket's tiers entirely rather than ranked on noise.

Pro matches are ranked by combined pick and ban count instead of win rate, since pro drafts are shaped as much by what a hero denies the enemy as by raw win percentage.

Frequently asked questions

How is the Dota 2 hero tier list built?

Each hero's win rate and pick rate inside a rank bracket come from OpenDota's public hero statistics, refreshed every 30 minutes. Win rates are smoothed toward 50% using a Bayesian adjustment so heroes with very few games cannot land in S tier off a short winning streak. Heroes below a minimum number of games for that bracket are left out of the tiers rather than ranked on too little data.

Why do tiers change when I switch rank brackets?

Heroes that are easy to play well, like simple right-click carries or low-skill supports, often have strong win rates at Herald and Guardian but fall off at Immortal and in pro matches, where coordination and counter-picking matter more. Switching brackets shows you the meta for the skill level you actually play at, not an average across every rank.

What does the S, A, B, C, D tier actually mean?

The tiers are cutoffs on the smoothed win rate: S tier is roughly 53% or higher, A tier about 51.5% to 53%, B tier about 49.5% to 51.5%, C tier about 48% to 49.5%, and D tier below that. These are relative to 50% baseline win rate, not a judgment of a hero's design, and the cutoffs apply the same way in every bracket.

How is the pro matches tier different?

Pro matches are ranked by combined pick and ban count instead of win rate. In competitive drafts a hero can be powerful enough to ban every game without ever being picked, so pick and ban count shows what professional teams consider a priority far better than raw win rate from a small number of tournament games.

Should I just play whatever is S tier?

Not necessarily. A hero tier list shows what is winning on average across many games in a bracket, not what you personally will win with. A hero you already know well usually outperforms an unfamiliar S-tier hero. Use the tier list to find a new hero worth learning or to understand what you are likely to face, then check your own results with the player lookup.

Where does RankSurge get Dota 2 hero data from?

Hero win rates, pick rates and pro pick and ban counts come from the OpenDota public API, a long-running open-source project that parses public Dota 2 match data and keeps a full history of hero performance by patch and rank bracket. The tier list refreshes every 30 minutes so it stays close to live. RankSurge is independent and is not affiliated with Valve or OpenDota.
