How do we build each tier?
Win rate
How often a pick wins in the selected rank bracket and patch.
Pick rate
How often it is chosen, which shows popularity and how much data we have.
Sample size
The number of games behind the numbers. Low samples are flagged, not ranked.
Each pick is scored inside one rank bracket, then grouped into tiers. A pick with a high win rate but tiny sample size is marked low confidence instead of topping the list.
Why split by rank bracket?
Easy-to-execute picks often look strong at lower ranks, while coordination-heavy picks tend to shine higher up. Splitting by bracket keeps the list relevant to the games you are playing.
How does the Dota 2 hero tier list work?
Dota 2 is our first fully live tier list. Every hero's win rate and pick rate is pulled from OpenDota's public hero statistics, smoothed toward 50% so low-sample heroes cannot fake a high tier, then split by rank bracket from Herald to Immortal plus a dedicated pro matches view ranked by pick and ban priority.

How will Valorant agent tiers work?
Agent tiers will be grouped by role (duelist, initiator, controller, sentinel) and use only data permitted under Riot's policy, which means opted-in players.
How will Overwatch 2 hero tiers work?
Hero tiers will be split by role queue role: tank, damage and support. Overwatch 2 support is the last phase of our rollout.
How will Marvel Rivals hero tiers work?
Marvel Rivals tiers wait on an official data source, because NetEase does not offer a public stats API. If one opens, hero tiers would be grouped by role and rank and refreshed at each season and mid-season balance update.
How will Deadlock hero tiers work?
Deadlock player lookups are live now. Hero tiers will be refreshed after each gameplay update, which arrive on an irregular schedule.

How do you decide which tier a pick goes in?
We combine three numbers within one rank bracket: win rate, pick rate and sample size. Win rate shows how well a pick performs, pick rate shows how popular it is, and sample size tells us how reliable both are. Picks with too few games are marked as low confidence instead of being pushed to the top on a lucky streak.
Why do tier lists differ by rank?
Picks that dominate low ranks are often easy to execute, while some high-skill picks only shine in organised, high-rank games. Mixing every rank together hides those differences. Each RankSurge list lets you pick a rank bracket so the tiers reflect games played at a level close to yours, and each bracket shows its own sample size.
How often will tier lists update?
The Dota 2 list refreshes every 30 minutes. For other games, tiers will update after every patch; balance changes can move a pick up or down a tier overnight, so each list will show the patch it is based on and when it was last refreshed. Early in a patch, sample sizes are small, so placements may be marked as provisional until enough games are played.
Should I only play S-tier picks?
No. A tier list shows what is winning on average, not what you will win with. A pick you know well often beats a top-tier pick you have never played. Use tier lists to choose what to learn next or to spot what opponents will lean on, and check your own results in the Match Tracker.
