Deadlock has 11 ranks from Initiate to Eternus, plus an uncalibrated Obscurus state. Each rank has six subranks (I to VI). Since the July 30, 2026 matchmaking update, you earn or lose visible Rank Points in a separate Ranked queue, and Eternus subranks are set by daily percentile instead of fixed point totals.
Below you will find every rank in order, how Rank Points and calibration work, where to check your rank in game, what Ranked looks like as of October 2026, and why the rules keep moving while Deadlock is still in development.
What are all the ranks in Deadlock, in order?
The ranked ladder that Valve introduced on July 30, 2026 runs from Initiate at the bottom to Eternus at the top. Players who have not finished calibration sit in Obscurus. Every rank from Initiate through Ascendant is split into subranks I through VI, with VI the highest, and community wikis note informal material nicknames for the lower tiers.
| # | Rank | Subranks | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0 | Obscurus | None | Uncalibrated; shown until your 8 placement games are done |
| 1 | Initiate | I to VI | Lowest rank (nicknamed Brick) |
| 2 | Seeker | I to VI | Nicknamed Stone |
| 3 | Acolyte | I to VI | New name in the 2026 ladder (Iron) |
| 4 | Sentinel | I to VI | New name in the 2026 ladder (Bronze) |
| 5 | Mystic | I to VI | New name in the 2026 ladder (Silver) |
| 6 | Ritualist | I to VI | Nicknamed Gold |
| 7 | Emissary | I to VI | Nicknamed Platinum |
| 8 | Oracle | I to VI | Oracle VI is the highest possible calibration result |
| 9 | Phantom | I to VI | Upper ladder |
| 10 | Ascendant | I to VI | Last rank with fixed point thresholds |
| 11 | Eternus | I to VI | Top rank; subranks assigned by daily percentile |
If an older guide lists Alchemist, Arcanist or Archon, it describes the pre-July 2026 ladder. The Skill Rating system that ran from November 2024 to July 2026 used those three names; the current ladder replaced them with Acolyte, Sentinel and Mystic and dropped Archon. How does Deadlock calculate your rank?
Ranked now uses visible Rank Points rather than a rating you only infer from a badge. According to the July 30, 2026 patch notes, a typical match was worth about 250 points. An August 2, 2026 adjustment raised that by roughly 20 percent, to about 300 points per game.
- Subrank promotion: 1,000 points moves you up one subrank, so roughly four net wins at the base rate.
- Rank promotion: the final step from a VI subrank into the next rank (for example, Mystic VI to Ritualist I) costs 2,000 points.
- Variable gains: the exact amount shifts with the matchmaker's expectations for the game and with win streaks, which add bonus points.
- Eternus: once you reach Eternus I, subrank cutoffs are recalculated daily from player percentiles rather than fixed point totals.
Valve has not published the full formula behind the matchmaker's expectations, so treat any precise per-match number you see online as approximate. Our rank goal planner can help you sketch how many net wins a target subrank might take.
Is there still hidden MMR?
The matchmaker still estimates skill behind the scenes to build fair lobbies and to adjust how many points a result is worth. What changed in July 2026 is that your progress bar and points are shown directly after each match, so you are no longer reading rank movement purely from a badge. Standard mode also adjusts games based on your experience with the hero you pick, but it never changes your Rank.
How do placements and rank protection work?
New ranked players, and everyone at the start of a season, play an 8-game calibration. Prior ranks get a soft reset, calibration cannot place you higher than Oracle VI, and placements must be played solo.
Once ranked, loss protection softens bad streaks. You get 2 games of protection at a subrank boundary and 5 games before dropping a full rank. Shield icons under the progress bar show how much protection is left.
Who can play Ranked in Deadlock?
Ranked has entry requirements meant to keep brand-new accounts out of competitive lobbies. As of the July 2026 rules, you need:
- 60 wins in Standard mode.
- At least three heroes eligible for Ranked, each with 15 or more Standard wins.
- No active sanctions such as low priority or communication bans.
Parties are limited to solo or duo. Duo partners must be no more than one rank apart, and Eternus players can only team with Eternus players within three subranks. Ranked also uses three hero bans per game, one more than Standard. The Deadlock Wiki notes that recently released heroes can be exempt from the 15-win rule for a limited time.
How do you check your Deadlock rank?
Your rank lives in the Ranked Hub in the Hideout. The ranked terminal opens the rank menu, season info, leaderboards and your rank history. A chalkboard in the Hub shows your current rank or placement progress, and a ticker tape printout lists recent wins and losses.
- Profile badge: reflects the highest rank you have reached.
- Pre-game area: shows every player's rank before the match starts.
- Leaderboards: the top 1,000 players per region appear in game. Global eligibility needs 75 matches in the last 30 days; hero boards need 30 matches on that hero in 30 days plus 100 lifetime wins with it.
For context on the top of the ladder, browse our leaderboards page, and use compare players to line up two profiles side by side.
What is the state of Ranked in October 2026?
Valve announced the matchmaking update on Steam on July 30, 2026, splitting play into Standard (unranked) and Ranked. Coverage from PC Gamer noted Valve warned the first week or so would be rocky, with longer queues while players unlocked eligibility.
The current season is Beta Season 1. It was originally set to end October 7, 2026, but an October 6 update moved the end to November 5, 2026 at 2 p.m. PDT, with the next season starting immediately afterward, as tracked by the wiki and Esports Tales. At season end, your highest rank is saved to your rank history and earns a commemorative item. Valve has said future seasons may run longer and include mid-season splits. These details are current as of mid-October 2026 and may change.
Why do Deadlock rank rules change so often?
Deadlock is still an in-development game. As of October 2026 it remains an invite-only Steam playtest with no release date, according to the Deadlock Wiki. That status means Valve treats systems as experiments and rewrites them when they do not work.
Ranked history shows how fast that happens:
- October 2024: the first Ranked mode launched with limited queue hours.
- November 2024: it was replaced by a single matchmaker and the Skill Rating system, which updated after every Normal match.
- July 30, 2026: Ranked returned with a new rank ladder, visible Rank Points and seasons.
- August 2 and October 6, 2026: points per game were raised and the season end date was pushed back.
Before relying on any number, check the latest patch notes and the date on whatever guide you are reading. We post rank-system changes on our news blog, and our guides and tier lists are dated for the same reason.

Frequently asked questions
How many ranks are in Deadlock?
Deadlock has 11 ranks, from Initiate at the bottom to Eternus at the top, plus Obscurus, which is the uncalibrated state shown before you finish placements. Each rank is divided into six subranks numbered I to VI, with VI the highest. That gives 66 ranked steps in total. The current ladder dates from the July 30, 2026 matchmaking update; it replaced Alchemist, Arcanist and Archon from the older ladder with Acolyte, Sentinel and Mystic. Valve may still rename or restructure tiers because the game is in development.
What is the order of Deadlock ranks?
From lowest to highest, the Deadlock ranks are Initiate, Seeker, Acolyte, Sentinel, Mystic, Ritualist, Emissary, Oracle, Phantom, Ascendant and Eternus. Obscurus sits below all of them as the uncalibrated placeholder. Each rank has subranks I through VI, and you climb through all six before moving to the next rank. This order reflects the ladder introduced on July 30, 2026. Guides written before that date list a different middle section, so check the publish date of any rank guide you read.
How many Rank Points do you get per win in Deadlock?
A Deadlock ranked match is worth about 300 Rank Points as of the August 2, 2026 adjustment, up from about 250 at launch. The exact number moves with the matchmaker's expectations for the game and with win streak bonuses, so gains and losses are not identical every match. You need 1,000 points to move up a subrank and 2,000 points to cross from a VI subrank into the next rank. At Eternus, subrank cutoffs are set daily by percentile instead of fixed points.
What do you need to unlock Ranked in Deadlock?
To queue Ranked in Deadlock you need 60 wins in Standard mode and at least three Ranked-eligible heroes, each with 15 or more Standard wins. Your account must also be free of sanctions such as low priority or communication bans. After that, you play 8 calibration games solo, and calibration can place you no higher than Oracle VI. Recently released heroes may be temporarily exempt from the 15-win rule. These requirements come from the July 2026 update and could change in later patches.
Where can I see my rank in Deadlock?
You can see your Deadlock rank in the Ranked Hub inside the Hideout. The ranked terminal opens the rank menu with season info, leaderboards and rank history, while a chalkboard shows your current rank or placement progress and a ticker tape lists recent wins and losses. Your profile badge reflects the highest rank you have reached, and the pre-game waiting area shows every player's rank before a ranked match begins. Regional leaderboards list the top 1,000 players.
When does the Deadlock ranked season end?
Deadlock Beta Season 1 is scheduled to end on November 5, 2026 at 2 p.m. PDT, with the next season starting immediately after. The season was first set to end on October 7, 2026, but an October 6 update pushed it back. When the season closes, your highest rank is saved to your rank history and you receive a commemorative item for it. Valve has said later seasons may be longer and could include mid-season splits, so confirm dates in the game client.
