CS2 stats measure different parts of your game: K/D compares kills to deaths, ADR is average damage per round, KAST is the share of rounds where you got a kill, assist, survived or were traded, and HS% tracks headshots. HLTV Rating 3.0 rolls these into one number where 1.00 is average.
Below we break down what each Counter-Strike 2 stat means, how the main sites calculate it, what Valve's in-game scoreboard shows versus third-party trackers, and how to use the numbers to actually improve.
What does each CS2 stat actually measure?
Most stats answer one narrow question. K/D tells you whether you trade efficiently, ADR tells you how much pressure you put on enemy health bars, and KAST tells you how often you were useful at all. No single number captures a whole match, which is why rating systems exist.
| Stat | What it measures | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| K/D | Kills divided by deaths | Shows how efficiently you win and lose duels |
| ADR | Average damage per round | Credits damage that did not end in your kill |
| KAST | Percentage of rounds with a kill, assist, survival or traded death | Measures consistency rather than peaks |
| HS% | Usually the share of your kills that were headshots | A rough signal of crosshair placement |
| Opening duels | Who wins the first kill of a round | First kills swing round win chances heavily |
| Utility damage | Damage from HE grenades and molotovs | Shows whether your grenades do real work |
| Flash assists | Kills on enemies you blinded | Captures support play that K/D ignores |
| MVPs | Round MVP stars awarded in-game | A loose, round-by-round highlight count |
| HLTV Rating 3.0 | Composite of kills, damage, survival, KAST, multi-kills and round swing | One number for overall impact, 1.00 average |
What is K/D and what is a good K/D in CS2?
K/D is your kills divided by your deaths. A 1.00 K/D means you died exactly as often as you killed. Above 1.00 means you won more fights than you lost, below means the opposite.
There is no official Valve benchmark for a "good" K/D, and it shifts with role. Entry players die first by design, while AWPers and lurkers often post higher K/Ds because they take safer fights. Judge K/D against your own history and against players at your Premier rating, not against a fixed number.
What does ADR mean in CS2?
ADR is average damage per round: total damage dealt to enemies divided by rounds played. HLTV lists it as a core stat and included it in its rating starting with Rating 2.0 in 2017.
ADR matters because CS2 rounds are often won by damage that someone else finishes. If you hit an enemy for 80 and a teammate taps them for the kill, your K/D does not move but your ADR does. A high ADR with a modest K/D usually means you are softening targets for your team.
What is KAST and why do analysts like it?
HLTV defines KAST as the percentage of rounds in which you got a kill, an assist, survived, or died and were traded. It rewards being useful in as many rounds as possible instead of having one huge round and five empty ones.
A low KAST often points to dying alone and untraded, which is a positioning and timing problem more than an aim problem. In Rating 3.0, HLTV eco-adjusts KAST, so a contribution in a round where your team was badly out-equipped counts for more.
How is headshot percentage calculated, and does it matter?
On scoreboards and most profile pages, HS% usually means the share of your kills that were headshots. Leetify uses a different stat it calls Headshot Accuracy: head hits divided by all hits on enemies, excluding AWP shots. Check which version a site uses before comparing numbers.
A high HS% is a decent sign of good crosshair height, but it is not a goal on its own. AWP and shotgun players naturally show lower headshot kill rates, and chasing headshots can cost you fights a body shot would have won.
What is HLTV Rating 3.0 and what does it combine?
HLTV Rating 3.0 launched on August 20, 2025, replacing Rating 2.1, and received a formula adjustment on October 29, 2025. As of October 2026 it is the current HLTV rating. HLTV says the average remains 1.00 over a CS2 event, as in earlier versions.
The six sub-ratings
- Kills, eco-adjusted so a rifle-versus-rifle kill is worth more than killing a starter pistol.
- Damage, also eco-adjusted.
- Survival, eco-adjusted.
- KAST, adjusted by how likely the action was given equipment, map and side.
- Multi-kills, adjusted the same way.
- Round Swing, the new sub-rating that replaced the old Impact rating.
What is Round Swing?
Round Swing measures how much each kill changed your team's chance of winning that round, using map, side, economy, bomb status and players alive. Credit is split between the player who landed the final damage, others who dealt damage, flash assists and trades. HLTV notes most players land between -1.5% and +1.5%, with the 2025 leaders near +3.7% to +3.8%.
The October 2025 update raised the weight of kills, lowered the weight of Round Swing, KAST and multi-kills, and gave more swing credit for non-frag plays such as flash assists. HLTV has not published the full formula. Read the official breakdowns in HLTV's Rating 3.0 introduction and the adjustment notes.
What are opening duels, utility damage and flash assists?
An opening duel is the first fight of a round. Winning it leaves your team in a 5v4, which is why HLTV's Round Swing example values an opening kill at roughly +20% win probability. Opening success rate is most useful for entry fraggers and AWPers who take first contact on purpose.
Utility damage is damage from HE grenades and molotovs. Flash assists count kills on enemies you blinded; Leetify, for example, counts kills by you or a teammate on players you blinded for more than 1.1 seconds. Both stats reward support players whose value barely shows up in K/D.
Leetify Rating and Aim Rating
Leetify, a third-party analytics site, uses its own model. Leetify Rating is zero-sum and centered on zero: it awards rating based on how each kill changes win probability, splitting credit between the killer, damage dealers, flash assists and trades. Per Leetify's November 2024 explainer, roughly -2.09 to +2.09 per round is the Average band.
Aim Rating is a separate Leetify score for mechanical skill, built from stats such as time to damage and crosshair placement. Leetify recalibrated it with CS2 data in March 2024 so the playerbase average sits at 50.
What does the in-game scoreboard show versus third-party sites?
Valve's in-game scoreboard shows kills, assists, deaths, MVP stars and score during the match. After the match you can cycle extra columns that include ADR, enemies flashed, utility damage, total damage and K/D ratio. Your in-game match history keeps K/D/A, MVPs and score per match.
MVP stars are awarded once per round. Valve does not publish the exact rule, so treat MVP counts as highlights, not a skill measure. The in-game Score is similar: it rewards kills, assists and objective plays, but the formula is not documented.
Third-party sites parse demos to add deeper stats: opening duels, trades, Round Swing, Leetify Rating and aim mechanics. These numbers are only as good as each site's model, so compare like with like. For how your rank itself works, see our CS2 Premier Rating explainer.
How should you use CS2 stats to improve?
- Pick one weakness. Low KAST suggests isolated deaths; low ADR suggests you are not involved early enough; low flash assists suggest your utility is thrown for show.
- Compare over 20+ matches. Single-match stats swing wildly with opponents and map. Trends matter more than one game.
- Match stats to role. An entry with a 0.9 K/D and high opening attempts can still be doing the job.
- Review demos. Stats point to problems; the demo shows why they happened.
- Benchmark against your own rating band. Use the rank distribution page to see where you stand and the rank goal planner to set a realistic target.
There are no shortcuts here. Better stats come from cleaner crosshair placement, smarter utility and fewer untraded deaths, built through deliberate practice. Browse more in our guides.

Frequently asked questions
What is a good K/D in CS2?
There is no official benchmark for a good K/D in Counter-Strike 2. Mathematically, 1.00 means you killed as many players as killed you, so anything above that means you won more duels than you lost. Context matters more than the raw number: entry fraggers die first by design and often post lower K/Ds, while AWPers and lurkers take safer fights. Compare your K/D across 20 or more matches and against players at a similar Premier rating rather than chasing a fixed target.
What does ADR stand for in CS2?
ADR stands for average damage per round. It is your total damage to enemies divided by the number of rounds played. ADR is useful because it credits damage that a teammate finished, which K/D ignores entirely. HLTV has listed ADR as a core stat for years and folded damage into its rating starting with Rating 2.0 in 2017. Valve's end-of-match scoreboard can also display ADR when you cycle the extra stat columns.
What is KAST in Counter-Strike?
KAST is the percentage of rounds in which you got a kill, an assist, survived, or died and were traded by a teammate, as defined by HLTV. It measures how consistently you contribute rather than how big your best rounds were. A low KAST usually means you are dying alone and untraded, which often points to positioning or timing issues. In HLTV Rating 3.0, KAST is eco-adjusted, so contributions in under-equipped rounds count for more.
Is HLTV Rating 3.0 the current version?
Yes. HLTV launched Rating 3.0 on August 20, 2025, replacing Rating 2.1, and applied formula adjustments on October 29, 2025. It combines six sub-ratings: kills, damage, survival, KAST, multi-kills and a new Round Swing metric that estimates how much each kill changed your team's chance to win the round. HLTV says the average rating remains 1.00 over a CS2 event, so a 1.10 is above average and a 0.90 is below.
Does the CS2 scoreboard show headshot percentage?
Valve's in-game scoreboard focuses on kills, assists, deaths, MVP stars and score, with extra columns such as ADR, enemies flashed and utility damage available after a match. Steam's personal game data pages list headshot percentage for matches, and third-party sites show it too. Be careful when comparing: most sites report headshot kills as a share of all kills, while Leetify's Headshot Accuracy measures head hits as a share of all hits.
How are MVPs awarded in CS2?
CS2 awards round MVP stars during a match, and they appear on the scoreboard and in match history. Valve does not publish the exact selection rule, so players generally see MVPs go to the top fragger or the player who decided the round through the objective. Because the rule is undocumented and one-per-round, MVP counts are better treated as highlights than as a reliable skill measure.
